Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by an external service provider (STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Deutschland). When you visit the site, the host automatically collects data in so-called server log files that your browser transmits: the IP address, date and time of access, the requested resource, the referring page and the browser and operating system used.

This data serves the technical delivery of the site, the assurance of stable and secure operation, and the prevention of abuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and functional service (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). The log data is not merged with other data sources and is deleted after a short period unless it is needed to investigate a specific case of abuse.

Contact form

If you contact us via the contact form on this site, the data entered in the form (name, email address, type of enquiry, message) is transmitted to us and delivered by email to our mailbox; no further storage in a database takes place. At the moment of submission, your IP address and the date and time of submission are also recorded and stored together with the message — to prevent abuse. For the same reason, our server limits the number of submissions per IP address within a short time window (rate limiting). Your consent is obtained during the submission process, with reference to this privacy policy.

After submitting, you will receive an automatically generated confirmation to the email address you provided. The legal basis for the processing is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR); if the contact aims at concluding a contract, additionally Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. The data is deleted as soon as the respective conversation has ended; you can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us. Statutory retention periods remain unaffected.

Spam protection on the contact form (Cloudflare Turnstile)

To protect the contact form against automated abuse, we use Cloudflare Turnstile, a service of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open the contact page, a script is loaded from Cloudflare; in the process, your IP address and technical characteristics of your browser and device behaviour are transmitted to Cloudflare and evaluated there. No cookies are set for this. The script is loaded only on the contact page, not on the other pages.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the form against abuse and automated access (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Cloudflare may also process data in the USA; Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. For details, see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Email contact

If you contact us by email, the personal data transmitted with the email (your email address, the content of your message) is stored and processed solely for handling your enquiry. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your enquiry (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR); if the contact aims at concluding a contract, additionally Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR.

The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose of its collection — i.e. when the respective conversation has ended. Statutory retention periods remain unaffected.

Local storage in your browser

So the site can remember your preferences, we store purely functional values in your browser’s local storage (localStorage):

• your chosen language (hwdev-lang-chosen)
• your chosen colour scheme (hwdev-theme-preference)
• your decision on the analytics notice (hwdev-consent)

These values remain on your device, are not transmitted to us or to third parties, and serve solely the function of the site. This is not tracking. No consent is required for this technically necessary storage; the legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a functional website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). You can delete the values at any time via your browser settings.

Cookies and web analytics

This site sets no tracking cookies and embeds no advertising networks. Only the technically necessary localStorage values described above are stored. Fonts are served locally from our server; there is no connection to an external font CDN.

On your first visit, a notice banner appears through which you can consent to or decline the use of the analytics tool Umami. Your choice is stored in your browser and respected on future visits. Beyond that, the only other third-party service is the Cloudflare Turnstile spam-protection script, loaded exclusively on the contact page (see above) — it does not set cookies either.

Web analytics (Umami)

We use Umami on this website, a privacy-friendly open-source web-analytics tool. Umami is only loaded once you give your consent via the notice banner.

Umami collects no personal data and uses no cookies. Only anonymised, aggregated data is recorded, such as page views, visit duration, country of origin and device type. Identifying individual visitors is not possible.

The legal basis is your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future — click the following button:
